R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Huntington's disease is a devastating condition that

 1-2     poses a serious public health risk for Texans, affecting many

 1-3     statewide and potentially affecting an even broader spectrum of the

 1-4     population who have not yet been diagnosed; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The costs that arise from Huntington's disease are

 1-6     significantly high in terms of human suffering, medical expenses,

 1-7     and severe stress to the family members of Huntington's patients;

 1-8     and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Organized efforts to combat this disease through the

1-10     dissemination of information about Huntington's and the development

1-11     of Huntington's services are crucial to the health of a substantial

1-12     part of the population; and

1-13           WHEREAS, It is the desire of the Huntington's Disease

1-14     Association of Texas to raise public awareness in our state with

1-15     regard to this growing health care problem and to voice care and

1-16     concern for those afflicted with this serious disease; and

1-17           WHEREAS, The Huntington's Disease Association of Texas works

1-18     to provide patients with proper education, treatment, and

1-19     self-management, thus ensuring those with the condition the same

1-20     quality of life enjoyed by all Texans, and the continuing efforts

1-21     of the organization in attaining this goal are indeed worthy of

1-22     special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-24     Legislature hereby recognize the Huntington's Disease Association

 2-1     of Texas for its valuable work toward the enhancement of the lives

 2-2     of those suffering from Huntington's disease and its ongoing fight

 2-3     against the disease itself; and, be it further

 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-5     prepared for the Huntington's Disease Association of Texas as an

 2-6     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
