R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Helen Hooks Looney of Denison on May 1-2 16, 1997, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends 1-3 of this beloved woman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Texarkana, Mrs. Looney was graduated 1-5 from East Texas State University in 1968; she wed Frank Looney on 1-6 April 7, 1967, and the couple nurtured a deeply fulfilling union 1-7 that spanned 30 years; and 1-8 WHEREAS, She will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife and 1-9 mother whose love and support helped to sustain the family in all 1-10 their endeavors; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A woman of great vision and strength, Mrs. Looney 1-12 consistently made time in her schedule to assist several worthy 1-13 local organizations, including the Denison Service League, the 1-14 Denison Education Fund, the Denison High School Yellowjacket 1-15 Booster Club, and the Junior Delphians; and 1-16 WHEREAS, She was also active in Denison Performing Arts, 1-17 the Denison Girls Club Follies, the Denison Women's Investment 1-18 Club, and Waples Memorial United Methodist Church, and her 1-19 remarkable commitment earned her the admiration of countless 1-20 individuals; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Helen Looney touched the lives of many people during 1-22 her years on this earth and though her special presence will be 1-23 deeply missed, her memory will long endure in the hearts and minds 1-24 of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th 2-2 Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Helen Hooks 2-3 Looney and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to 2-4 her husband, Dr. Frank Looney; to her sons and daughter-in-law, 2-5 Matt and Jennifer Looney, Dan Looney, Joel Looney, and Luke Looney; 2-6 to her father and stepmother, Frank and Mary Hooks; to her 2-7 father-in-law, Gus Looney, Jr., to her sisters and brothers-in-law, 2-8 Lola and Bill Shields and Susan and Jon Meadors; and to the many 2-9 other friends and relatives of this esteemed Texan; and, be it 2-10 further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-13 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-14 Helen Hooks Looney.
