R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of the Honorable Sylvester Moore of

 1-2     Groves on May 27, 1997, at the age of 68, has brought a great loss

 1-3     to the family and many friends of this distinguished Texan; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Noble, Louisiana, Mr. Moore had lived

 1-5     for 51 years in Groves, where he was retired from his post as a

 1-6     general supervisor with Texaco, and he began his fine tenure as a

 1-7     public servant when he was first elected to the Groves City Council

 1-8     in 1960; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Well regarded throughout the area for the hard work,

1-10     dedication, and expertise he demonstrated throughout his years as

1-11     mayor, he completed his tenure in public office in 1996, after more

1-12     than three decades of outstanding service to his fellow citizens;

1-13     and

1-14           WHEREAS, During his time in office, Mayor Moore embarked on

1-15     several projects that are still reshaping the city; he oversaw the

1-16     site selection process for the wastewater treatment plant, and he

1-17     played an active role in the widening of 39th Street; and

1-18           WHEREAS, This dedicated gentleman also worked for the

1-19     betterment of his community as a private citizen, having served as

1-20     president of the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission and

1-21     as a member of Groves Masonic Lodge No. 1315, the Order of the

1-22     Eastern Star Groves Chapter 953, and the Groves Lions Club; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Sylvester Moore was a man of great vision who left

1-24     an indelible mark on the community he was proud to call home, and

 2-1     though his special presence will be deeply missed, his memory will

 2-2     long endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him;

 2-3     now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable

 2-6     Sylvester Moore and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his

 2-7     family: to his beloved wife, Wilma Moore; to his daughter, Carolyn

 2-8     Joffrion; to his sons, Sylvester Moore, Jr., Charlie Moore, and

 2-9     Larry Moore; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to

2-10     the many other friends and relatives of this eminent gentleman;

2-11     and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-14     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-15     the Honorable Sylvester Moore.
