R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Gilbert Y. Luke on April 10,

 1-2     1997, at the age of 89, has brought a great loss to the family and

 1-3     many friends of this beloved gentleman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Luke was born in Brazos on

 1-5     September 14, 1907; after living in both Mineral Wells and

 1-6     Weatherford, he settled in Arlington in 1934 and quickly

 1-7     established himself as an essential member of that community; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, This noteworthy individual served many civic

 1-9     organizations in the Arlington area, including the Masons and the

1-10     Scottish Rite and Shrine; he was also a proud member of the

1-11     congregation of the United Methodist Church; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Mr. Luke enjoyed a long and productive career as an

1-13     automotive dealer that began in 1936; in 1980, in a tribute to his

1-14     many years of service, he was named one of the outstanding dealers

1-15     of the year by the National Automobile Dealers Association and Time

1-16     magazine; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Gilbert Y. Luke was a man of generosity and

1-18     compassion, who was loved dearly by his family, and although his

1-19     guidance and devotion will be missed by all who knew him, his

1-20     spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of the many

1-21     people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Gilbert Y. Luke and

1-24     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,

 2-1     Dorothy Luke; to his sons and daughters-in-law, J. and Lynn Luke

 2-2     and Frank and Sue Luke; to his grandchildren, Tracey, Margaret,

 2-3     Carmen, and Christina; to his great-grandchildren, Grayson and

 2-4     Daniel; and to the many other relatives and friends of this

 2-5     esteemed gentleman; and, be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

 2-8     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

 2-9     Gilbert Y.  Luke.
