R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, March 1, 1997, was indeed a special day for Romeo

 1-2     Rosendo Rodriguez, for on that day he celebrated his 59th birthday;

 1-3     and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native son of Texas, he was raised with his five

 1-5     siblings in the small South Texas community of Rio Grande City by

 1-6     his loving parents, Leonor and Felipe Rodriguez; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, As a boy, he worked long, hard hours under the hot

 1-8     sun of the Lower Rio Grande Valley with his father to provide for

 1-9     the family; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez had to become strong at an early age

1-11     when he endured the death of his father and began working to help

1-12     support his family and ease the pain of loss; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Waiting until the appropriate age of thirty-two, and

1-14     being patient with the uncertainty that is love, he married the

1-15     woman that he so diligently courted, Olga Perez, and together they

1-16     were blessed with two fine children, Eduardo and Deanna; and

1-17           WHEREAS, He once again endured a painful loss when Olga

1-18     Rodriguez died after sixteen years of marriage, and he filled his

1-19     emptiness with his children and committed himself to raising them

1-20     as his late wife would have wanted him to; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez served his country first as a member

1-22     of the armed forces of the United States and then as a dedicated

1-23     civil servant in the United States Department of Agriculture; and

1-24           WHEREAS, He has retired to enjoy his free time and his new

 2-1     wife, Ileana, spending most of that free time drinking coffee; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, His dedication to his family and his state are

 2-3     entirely worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore,

 2-4     be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, by the House of Representatives of the State of

 2-6     Texas, That the House honor Romeo Rosendo Rodriguez by recognizing

 2-7     March 1, 1998, as Romeo Rodriguez Day at the Texas Capitol and

 2-8     extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and

 2-9     happiness in the future; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the

2-12     Texas House of Representatives.
