No. 1372 75R17578 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared many happy and rewarding years of marriage is truly 1-3 a memorable occasion worthy of honor and praise; and 1-4 WHEREAS, George and Shirley Haley will have the privilege of 1-5 commemorating such a momentous event in their lives when they 1-6 celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary on June 2, 1997; and 1-7 WHEREAS, United in matrimony more than four decades ago at 1-8 Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, George Kirby Haley and the 1-9 former Shirley Dean Knibbe have nurtured an enduring relationship 1-10 that has grown in love and understanding with each passing year and 1-11 that has been blessed with three children, Kirby Dean Haley, 1-12 William Scott Haley, and Tamara Marie Haley Phillips; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A Navy pilot for 25 years, Mr. Haley achieved the 1-14 rank of commander and flew numerous combat missions in Vietnam 1-15 before retiring from the military; during that time, Mrs. Haley 1-16 adeptly balanced the needs of the couple's children with the unique 1-17 demands of being a military wife, and she served as a counselor and 1-18 surrogate mother to the young wives of many of her husband's 1-19 colleagues; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Haley is an electrical engineer at The 1-21 University of Texas at Austin, while his gracious wife fulfills an 1-22 indispensable role as administrative assistant to State 1-23 Representative Sue Palmer; ironically, the couple will have an 1-24 additional reason to celebrate June 2 this year, as it marks both 2-1 their anniversary and the final day of the very hectic 75th 2-2 Legislative Session; and 2-3 WHEREAS, After living outside the Lone Star State for many 2-4 years while Mr. Haley served in the Navy, the Haleys have returned 2-5 to Austin and to the church in which they met and were married, 2-6 Hyde Park Baptist Church; they have done a great deal of volunteer 2-7 work for the church, including chairing the Baptismal Committee, 2-8 and their friends in the congregation undoubtedly join in wishing 2-9 this remarkable couple a memorable anniversary; and 2-10 WHEREAS, For 41 years, George and Shirley Haley have enjoyed 2-11 a deeply rewarding marriage filled with many happy times and 2-12 cherished family memories; their life together has been an 2-13 inspiration to their family and many friends, and they are indeed 2-14 deserving of special legislative recognition at this time; now, 2-15 therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby honor George and Shirley Haley on the occasion 2-18 of their 41st wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best 2-19 wishes for many more years of continued success and happiness; and, 2-20 be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Haley as an expression of high regard by 2-23 the Texas House of Representatives.
