R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, There has long been a strong affinity between the 1-2 people of the State of Texas and the people of the Commonwealth of 1-3 Kentucky; and 1-4 WHEREAS, the only battle standard carried by the Texas Army 1-5 at the Battle of San Jacinto, now displayed behind the Speaker's 1-6 rostrum in the Hall of the House, was sewn for a company of 1-7 Kentucky volunteers by the women of Newport, Kentucky; and 1-8 WHEREAS, many of the early and modern-day immigrants to Texas 1-9 were of Kentucky heritage; and 1-10 WHEREAS, the House has learned with pleasure that the 1-11 descendants of William Wyatt and Frances Gregory Clark, of Graves 1-12 County, Kentucky, will be holding a family reunion June 22, 1997; 1-13 and their great-grandson, Hugh L. Strange, a legislative assistant 1-14 to Representative Glen Maxey of Austin, will be attending that 1-15 reunion; and 1-16 WHEREAS, the Clark family has contributed much to Kentucky, 1-17 Texas, and the United States in the fields of farming, business, 1-18 medicine, politics, law, science, education, the military, fine 1-19 arts, accounting, civil service, transportation, and industrial 1-20 arts; and 1-21 WHEREAS, in an era when family ties are often forgotten and 2-1 lost, those families who honor and mark those bonds are entitled to 2-2 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of 2-4 Texas, That the House hereby honor the Clarks of Graves County, 2-5 Kentucky, by recognizing June 22 as Clark Day at the Texas Capitol 2-6 and extend to the family sincere best wishes for continued success 2-7 and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, that an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the Clark family as an expression of high regard by 2-10 the Texas House of Representatives.
