R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, There has long been a strong affinity between the 1-2 people of the State of Texas and the people of the Commonwealth of 1-3 Kentucky; and 1-4 WHEREAS, That great Texas patriot James Bowie, commander of 1-5 the revolutionary forces at the Battle of the Alamo, was born in 1-6 Kentucky and lived there as a young boy before migrating to 1-7 Louisiana and then Texas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Many of the early and modern-day immigrants to Texas 1-9 were of Kentucky heritage; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The House has learned with pleasure that the 1-11 descendants of James Mack and Lessie Pike Brady, of Graves County, 1-12 Kentucky, will be holding a family reunion June 21, 1997, and their 1-13 great-grandson, Hugh L. Strange, a legislative assistant to 1-14 Representative Glen Maxey of Austin, will be attending that 1-15 reunion; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The Brady clan has contributed much to Kentucky, 1-17 Texas, and the United States in the fields of farming, business, 1-18 medicine, politics, law, fine arts, accounting, horse breeding, 1-19 civil service, transportation, and industrial arts; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In an era when family ties are often forgotten and 1-21 lost, those families who honor and mark those bonds are entitled to 1-22 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of 1-24 Texas, That the House hereby honor the Bradys of Graves County, 2-1 Kentucky, by recognizing June 21 as Brady Day at the Texas Capitol 2-2 and extend to the clan sincere best wishes for continued success 2-3 and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for the Brady clan as an expression of high regard by the 2-6 Texas House of Representatives.
