                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The year 1997 marked an important milestone in the

 1-2     life of John S.  Findley, DDS, as he was elected president of the

 1-3     Texas Dental Association at the Association's recent annual

 1-4     convention in San Antonio; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Born in Bryan, Texas, on October 3, 1942, this

 1-6     distinguished gentleman graduated from Ennis High School and then

 1-7     went on to the United States Air Force Academy, North Texas State

 1-8     University, Southern Methodist University, and the Baylor

 1-9     University College of Dentistry where he received his degree in

1-10     1970; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Three years prior, Dr. Findley heeded his country's

1-12     call and enlisted as a member of the United States Air Force from

1-13     which he was honorably discharged in 1967; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Since the beginning of his dental practice, Dr.

1-15     Findley has distinguished himself in his profession, having

1-16     received numerous honors and distinctions, including the

1-17     Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater, Baylor College of

1-18     Dentistry, the 1995 Dentist of the Year Award from the Dallas

1-19     Dental Society, as well as fellowships from the International

1-20     College of Dentistry and the American College of Dentists, in 1992

1-21     and 1994, respectively; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Dr. Findley is also involved in various aspects of

 2-2     civic and community service having served as Mayor of Cross Roads,

 2-3     Texas, from 1992-94, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oak

 2-4     Grove United Methodist Church, and as a member of the Board of

 2-5     Directors of the Plano United Way; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, As a president of the Texas Dental Association, Dr.

 2-7     Findley brings a wealth of legislative experience to the position;

 2-8     during the 74th Legislative Session, he spearheaded TDA's efforts

 2-9     to reinstate the State Board of Dental Examiners, and his

2-10     leadership in this area garnered him the President's Award; and

2-11           WHEREAS, Throughout his many achievements, Dr. Findley has

2-12     been bolstered by the love and support of his beloved wife Judy and

2-13     their two sons Brett and Alan; now, therefore, be it

2-14           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-15     Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. John S. Findley for his recent

2-16     election as president of the Texas Dental Association, and extend

2-17     to him warmest best wishes for success in his new position; and, be

2-18     it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-20     prepared for Dr.  Findley as a token of the highest regard from the

2-21     Texas House of Representatives.
