R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, In 1996, Friberg-Cooper United Methodist Church
 1-2     celebrated 100 years of faithful service to the spiritual needs of
 1-3     its community; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The church was organized in 1896 by the Reverend
 1-5     Cummings and a local farmer, Levi Carey, and was named for
 1-6     benefactors John and Mary Andree Friberg; during its earliest
 1-7     years, the congregation met for services at a granary, and members
 1-8     realized their goal of having their own meeting place when they
 1-9     completed construction on their first church in 1902; and
1-10           WHEREAS, After a grass fire consumed that structure in 1938,
1-11     the congregation built its current sanctuary; seven years later,
1-12     members placed a green neon cross atop its steeple in memory of the
1-13     Reverend Ted Jenne, and their unique tribute has helped to ensure
1-14     that generations of area residents would always remember this
1-15     beloved house of worship; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The church became known by its current name after it
1-17     consolidated with the neighboring Cooper Methodist Church in 1947;
1-18     since that time, other area churches have closed their doors, but
1-19     inspired leadership and an active membership have helped
1-20     Friberg-Cooper United Methodist Church to flourish; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Moreover, its congregation has earned a reputation
1-22     for warmth and friendliness that attracts individuals of other
1-23     faiths as well, and Sunday sermons are often preached to an
1-24     interdenominational group of 50 or more people; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, Friberg-Cooper United
 2-2     Methodist Church has offered spiritual leadership and moral
 2-3     guidance to the members of its congregation; a source of great
 2-4     inspiration, the church stands today as a tribute to the dedication
 2-5     and hard work of its members, past and present, who have devoted
 2-6     their time, energy, and resources to ensure its continued existence
 2-7     as a house of God; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby honor Friberg-Cooper United Methodist Church on
2-10     the occasion of its centennial and extend best wishes to the
2-11     members of its congregation for another century of fellowship; and,
2-12     be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for the members of Friberg-Cooper United Methodist Church
2-15     as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-16     Representatives.
