R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, A number of noteworthy public servants and private
1-2 citizens provided valuable aid in the recent standoff between the
1-3 Republic of Texas separatist faction and law enforcement officials,
1-4 and their efforts are indeed deserving of special legislative
1-5 recognition; and
1-6 WHEREAS, In any situation of this nature, efficient and
1-7 timely logistical support is essential to the success of the
1-8 operation, and through their remarkable efforts, these dedicated
1-9 men and women helped to ensure a peaceful resolution to the
1-10 confrontation; and
1-11 WHEREAS, An undertaking of this size and complexity is
1-12 necessarily the culmination of the work of many people, and among
1-13 those who contributed to the common effort during the crisis were
1-14 Texas Rangers David K. Duncan, Johnny W. Allen, and Gerald A.
1-15 Villalobos; Texas Department of Public Safety personnel David
1-16 Nesbitt, Mike Campbell, Robert Lujan, Sabino Martinez, Don Collins,
1-17 Glenn Shioji, Ruben Garcia, Timothy Collie, Damas Lopez, Roger
1-18 Kopycinski, Jose Munoz, Michael Wagner, Kenneth Plunk, Ronnie
1-19 Williams, Paul Hearne, Joe Dennett, Justin Stanley, Lance Warren,
1-20 Luis Najera, and Hector Carrillo; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Further invaluable assistance was rendered by Texas
1-22 Alcoholic Beverage Commission employee Dan Young, as well as Jim
1-23 Kitchens, Frank Luna, Randal Brown, Robert Guevaro, Steve Whitaker,
1-24 Brent Johnson, Don Jackson, Fernando Cervantes, J. C. Flores, Alan
2-1 Masloff, and Mack Caudle of the Parks and Wildlife Department; Rudy
2-2 Rodriguez of the U.S. Border Patrol; U.S. Marshals Garry Brown and
2-3 Paul Evans; Bobby Upchurch of the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers
2-4 Association; U.S. Attorney Jim Blankenship; and 83rd District
2-5 Attorney Albert Valadez, who was aided by Mimi Smith, Kenneth
2-6 Clouse, James Epson, and Aldo Gonzalez; and
2-7 WHEREAS, Other esteemed residents of the Lone Star State who
2-8 gave of themselves to the effort included Matt Adams, Pat Reyna,
2-9 George Grubb, Tom Brown, and Jack Bell of the Fort Davis Sheriff's
2-10 Office; Danny Dominguez, Oscar Gallegos, Rusty Taylor, and Steve
2-11 Coker of the Presidio County Sheriff's Office; Steve Whitley, Chuck
2-12 Shaddox, and Martin Wiley of the Brewster County Sheriff's Office;
2-13 Glenn Humphries, Alberto Urias, Mike Whitfield, and Gary Rose of
2-14 the Culberson County Sheriff's Office; Butch Street, Donald
2-15 Zimmerman, and Roger Ramirez of the Alpine Police Department;
2-16 Gilbert Valenzuela, Joe Torres, Carl Lewis, and Teryn Muench of
2-17 Southwestern Bell; and personnel from West Texas Utilities; and
2-18 WHEREAS, All of these individuals went above and beyond the
2-19 call of duty in responding to this life-threatening crisis, and
2-20 their distinguished efforts have earned them the respect and
2-21 gratitude of all Texans; now, therefore, be it
2-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-23 Legislature hereby honor all the individuals who contributed to the
2-24 resolution of the Fort Davis standoff and extend to them deepest
2-25 appreciation for their significant service; and, be it further
2-26 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-27 prepared for these individuals as an expression of high regard by
3-1 the Texas House of Representatives.
