AN ACT
1-1 relating to the maximum tax rate that may be levied by the Live Oak
1-2 Underground Water Conservation District to pay maintenance and
1-3 operating expenses.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 9, Chapter 715, Acts of the 71st
1-6 Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, is amended to read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 9. TAXES AND BONDS. (a) Except as provided by
1-8 Subsection (b) of this section, the [The] tax and bond provisions
1-9 of Subchapters F and G, Chapter 36, Subchapter F, Chapter 49, and
1-10 Subchapters K, L, M, N, and P, Chapter [Chapters] 51 [and 52],
1-11 Water Code, apply to the district.
1-12 (b) Notwithstanding Section 36.201(b), Water Code, the
1-13 district annually may levy taxes to pay the maintenance and
1-14 operating expenses of the district at a rate not to exceed five
1-15 cents on each $100 of assessed valuation.
1-16 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-21 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-22 passage, and it is so enacted.
