 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-7                                   AN ACT

 1-8     relating to the maximum tax rate that may be levied by the Live Oak

 1-9     Underground Water Conservation District to pay maintenance and

1-10     operating expenses.

1-11           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-12           SECTION 1.  Section 9, Chapter 715, Acts of the 71st

1-13     Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, is amended to read as follows:

1-14           Sec. 9.  TAXES AND BONDS.  (a)  Except as provided by

1-15     Subsection (b) of this section, the [The] tax and bond provisions

1-16     of Subchapters F and G, Chapter 36, Subchapter F, Chapter 49, and

1-17     Subchapters K, L, M, N, and P, Chapter [Chapters] 51 [and 52],

1-18     Water Code, apply to the district.

1-19           (b)  Notwithstanding Section 36.201(b), Water Code, the

1-20     district annually may levy taxes to pay the maintenance and

1-21     operating expenses of the district at a rate not to exceed five

1-22     cents on each $100 of assessed valuation.

1-23           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-24     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-25     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-26     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-27     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-28     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-29     passage, and it is so enacted.
