No. 191 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed January 9, 1997; January 15, 1997, 1-3 read first time and referred to Committee on Intergovernmental 1-4 Relations; March 20, 1997, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 11, Nays 0; March 20, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the recommendations of certain local officials 1-9 regarding the issuance of licenses to sell beer at retail. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Subsection (c), Section 61.32, Alcoholic Beverage 1-12 Code, is amended to read as follows: 1-13 (c) In the case of an application to sell beer at retail, 1-14 the county judge shall give due consideration to any 1-15 recommendations made by representatives of the commission, the 1-16 county commissioners or the sheriff or county or district attorney 1-17 of the county where the license is sought, or the mayor, city 1-18 council members or commissioners, or chief of police of the 1-19 incorporated city where the applicant seeks to conduct business. 1-20 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 1-21 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-22 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-23 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-24 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-25 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-26 * * * * *
