                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

                                       AN ACT

 1-1     relating to certain students expelled from public school or placed

 1-2     in an alternative education program.

 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-4           SECTION 1.  Subsection (g), Section 37.010, Education Code,

 1-5     is amended to read as follows:

 1-6           (g)  If an expelled student enrolls in another school

 1-7     district, the board of trustees of the district that expelled the

 1-8     student shall provide to the district in which the student enrolls,

 1-9     at the same time other records of the student are provided, a copy

1-10     of the expulsion order and the referral to the authorized officer

1-11     of the juvenile court.  The district in which the student enrolls

1-12     may continue the expulsion under the terms of the order, may place

1-13     the student in an alternative education program for the period

1-14     specified by the expulsion order, or may allow the student to

1-15     attend regular classes without completing the period of expulsion.

1-16           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-17     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-18     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-19     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-20     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-21     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-22     passage, and it is so enacted.
