                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

                                       AN ACT

 1-1     relating to the salary of an official court reporter.

 1-2           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-3           SECTION 1.  Section 52.042, Government Code, is amended by

 1-4     amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as

 1-5     follows:

 1-6           (c)  The official court reporter is entitled to receive his

 1-7     regular salary while temporarily unable to perform his duties due

 1-8     to other official work.  The official court reporter may not

 1-9     receive salary under this subsection for more than 30 days each

1-10     year.

1-11           (d)  The salary of the official court reporter for absences

1-12     due to illness or unavoidable disability shall be determined in

1-13     accordance with the compensation and leave policies of the county

1-14     or counties responsible for payment of the official court

1-15     reporter's salary and Chapter 504, Labor Code.

1-16           SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-17     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-18     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-19     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-20     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-21     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its

1-22     passage, and it is so enacted.
