No. 483 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed February 6, 1997; February 11, 1997, 1-3 read first time and referred to Committee on Jurisprudence; 1-4 April 15, 1997, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 7, 1-5 Nays 0; April 15, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the salary of an official court reporter. 1-9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-10 SECTION 1. Section 52.042, Government Code, is amended by 1-11 amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as 1-12 follows: 1-13 (c) The official court reporter is entitled to receive his 1-14 regular salary while temporarily unable to perform his duties due 1-15 to other official work. The official court reporter may not 1-16 receive salary under this subsection for more than 30 days each 1-17 year. 1-18 (d) The salary of the official court reporter for absences 1-19 due to illness or unavoidable disability shall be determined in 1-20 accordance with the compensation and leave policies of the county 1-21 or counties responsible for payment of the official court 1-22 reporter's salary and Chapter 504, Labor Code. 1-23 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-25 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-26 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-27 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-28 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-29 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-30 * * * * *
