AN ACT 1-1 relating to the design, manufacture, and sale of certain 1-2 commemorative items relating to the state. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Chapter 2172, Government Code, is amended by 1-5 adding Section 2172.006 to read as follows: 1-6 Sec. 2172.006. MANUFACTURE AND SALE OF CERTAIN COMMEMORATIVE 1-7 ITEMS. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the 1-8 commission may negotiate and contract with a privately owned 1-9 business entity for the design and manufacture of: 1-10 (1) an official state lapel pin for purchase by 1-11 members and former members of the house of representatives; 1-12 (2) an official state lapel pin for purchase by 1-13 members and former members of the senate; 1-14 (3) an official state ring for purchase by members and 1-15 former members of the house of representatives; and 1-16 (4) an official state ring for purchase by members and 1-17 former members of the senate. 1-18 (b) The commission must submit any design of an official 1-19 state lapel pin or ring to the State Preservation Board for its 1-20 approval. 1-21 (c) Only a member or former member of the legislature may 1-22 purchase an official state lapel pin or ring manufactured under 1-23 this section. The member or former member must use the member's or 2-1 former member's personal funds for the purchase. 2-2 (d) The commission by rule shall establish the purchase 2-3 price for a lapel pin or ring. After payment of amounts required 2-4 under the contract and recovery of its costs of administering this 2-5 section, the commission shall deposit any remaining funds received 2-6 from the sale of items under this section to the credit of the 2-7 Texas preservation trust fund. 2-8 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997. 2-9 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 2-10 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-11 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-12 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-13 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I hereby certify that S.B.
