No. 996 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 6, 1997; March 11, 1997, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on Administration; 1-4 April 2, 1997, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 6, 1-5 Nays 0; April 2, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the donation of certain surplus or salvage state 1-9 property. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Section 2175.301, Government Code, is amended by 1-12 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: 1-13 (c) An agency in the legislative branch shall dispose of its 1-14 surplus or salvage property under a disposition system established 1-15 by the agency. This chapter does not apply to the agency's 1-16 disposition of its surplus or salvage property under that system. 1-17 That system shall give preference to transferring the property 1-18 directly to, in order of priority: 1-19 (1) a public school; 1-20 (2) another public governmental agency; or 1-21 (3) an assistance organization. 1-22 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-25 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-26 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-27 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-28 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-29 * * * * *
