By Gallegos S.B. No. 1025 75R6248 JRD-F A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to assignment pay for fire fighters and police officers in 1-3 certain municipalities. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 143.113(b), Local Government Code, is 1-6 amended to read as follows: 1-7 (b) The municipality's governing body may authorize 1-8 assignment pay for emergency ambulance attendants, field training 1-9 officers, and hazardous materials response team personnel. The 1-10 municipality's governing body may authorize assignment pay for fire 1-11 fighters or police officers who perform specialized functions in 1-12 their respective departments, including but not limited to career 1-13 patrol officers, aircraft fire fighting and rescue personnel, fire 1-14 fighters whose duties include first response for medical 1-15 emergencies, arson investigators, and fire prevention officers. The 1-16 assignment pay is in an amount and is payable under conditions set 1-17 by ordinance and is in addition to the regular pay received by 1-18 members of the fire department or police department. The head of 1-19 the fire department or police department is not eligible for the 1-20 assignment pay authorized by this subsection. 1-21 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-22 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-23 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-24 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-1 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 2-2 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 2-3 passage, and it is so enacted.
