1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to the payment of funds to support the Early High School
1-9 Graduation Scholarship program.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 56.207, Education Code, is amended to
1-12 read as follows:
1-13 Sec. 56.207. PAYMENT OF TUITION CREDIT. (a) [On receipt of
1-14 a report from an eligible institution of higher education under
1-15 Section 56.206(c), the coordinating board shall distribute to the
1-16 institution the amount of the state tuition credit applied by the
1-17 institution.]
1-18 [(b)] At least once each year the coordinating board shall
1-19 submit a report to the commissioner of education that includes:
1-20 (1) the name of each student who used state tuition
1-21 credit under this subchapter during the period covered by the
1-22 report;
1-23 (2) the school district from which each student
1-24 graduated from high school; and
1-25 (3) the amount of the state tuition credit used by
1-26 each student during the period covered by the report.
1-27 (b) [(c)] On receipt of a report from the coordinating board
1-28 under Subsection (a) [(b)], the commissioner shall transfer to the
1-29 coordinating board, from funds appropriated for the Foundation
1-30 School Program, an amount sufficient to pay each eligible
1-31 institution of higher education the amount of state tuition credit
1-32 applied by the institution [reimburse the coordinating board for
1-33 amounts disbursed in payment of state tuition credits] during the
1-34 period covered by the report.
1-35 (c) The coordinating board shall distribute the appropriate
1-36 amount of funds to each eligible institution when the board
1-37 receives the funds under Subsection (b).
1-38 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.
1-39 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-40 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-41 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-42 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-43 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
