                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-1                                   AN ACT

 1-2     relating to funding for and property of regional education service

 1-3     centers.

 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-5           SECTION 1.  Sections 8.121-8.123, Education Code, are

 1-6     repealed.

 1-7           SECTION 2.  Not later than December 15, 1998, the Texas

 1-8     Education Agency shall file with the lieutenant governor, the

 1-9     speaker of the house of representatives, and the chairs of the

1-10     standing committees of the senate and the house of representatives

1-11     with primary jurisdiction over the public school system a report

1-12     describing the property owned by each regional education service

1-13     center established under Chapter 8, Education Code, as that chapter

1-14     existed on January 1, 1997, and the use and value of that property.

1-15           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect August 31, 1997.

1-16           SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-17     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-18     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-19     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-20     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,

1-21     and that this Act take effect and be in force according to its

1-22     terms, and it is so enacted.
