 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

 1-7                                   AN ACT

 1-8     relating to certain municipal hotel occupancy taxes.

 1-9           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

1-10           SECTION 1.  Subdivision (8), Section 351.001, Tax Code, is

1-11     amended to read as follows:

1-12                 (8)  "Eligible central municipality" means a

1-13     municipality with a population of more than 440,000 that is located

1-14     in a county with a population of 550,000 [one million] or more and

1-15     that has adopted a capital improvement plan for the expansion of an

1-16     existing convention center facility.

1-17           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

1-18           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-19     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-20     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-21     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-22     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
