                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

                                       AN ACT

 1-1     relating to the Hays County Juvenile Probation Department.

 1-2           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-3           SECTION 1.  Sec. 152.1111, Human Resources Code, is amended

 1-4     to read as follows:

 1-5           (a)  The juvenile board of Hays County is composed of the

 1-6     county judge, [the district judges in Hays County,] the district

 1-7     judge of the 22nd judicial district, the [judge] judges of the

 1-8     county court at law, sheriff, and the [county attorney] criminal

 1-9     district attorney.

1-10           (b)  The commissioners court may pay the juvenile board

1-11     members additional annual compensation [of not more than $300 for

1-12     the added duties imposed on the members] in an amount to be at the

1-13     discretion of the commissioner's court.  The additional

1-14     compensation shall be paid in equal monthly installments from the

1-15     general fund or any other available fund of the county.

1-16           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1997.

1-17           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the

1-18     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an

1-19     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the

1-20     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several

1-21     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
