                            SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, For each of the last 50 years, the Young Men's

 1-2     Christian Associations of Texas have sponsored a youth and

 1-3     government program having as its purpose the training of the

 1-4     state's youth in the process of representative government and

 1-5     democracy; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Participants are elected by their local YMCA youth

 1-7     clubs or high schools, and preparatory district conferences set

 1-8     agendas for the annual program and acquaint the youth with

 1-9     governmental processes; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Plans currently are under way for the 50th and 51st

1-11     annual Texas YMCA model legislatures and judicial sessions to be

1-12     held in Austin; contemplated dates for those sessions are Thursday

1-13     through Sunday, January 23-26, 1997, and February 5-8, 1998, with

1-14     opening sessions each year planned for Thursday evening and mock

1-15     legislative sessions planned for Friday and Saturday; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The YMCA youth and government program provides a

1-17     valuable and comprehensive educational experience, and the

1-18     legislature supports the program as a means of developing an

1-19     informed citizenry and as a training ground for future state

1-20     officials; now, therefore, be it

1-21           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

1-22     hereby grant permission to the YMCA youth and government program,

1-23     in accordance with the rules of the house and senate and the

1-24     respective policies of their committees on administration, to use

 2-1     the house and senate chambers, auditorium, and committee rooms on

 2-2     January 23, 24, and 25, 1997, and on February 5, 6, and 7, 1998,

 2-3     provided that the house of representatives and senate are not in

 2-4     session.
