                            SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-2     recognizing Kid Cardona, the famous caricature artist whose many

 1-3     contributions to our state have earned him the title Caricature

 1-4     Artist of Texas; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Kid Cardona attended Del Mar Junior College in

 1-6     Corpus Christi and Moreno's School of Cartooning; he has since had

 1-7     a successful 27-year career as a cartoonist, caricaturist, and

 1-8     commercial cartoonist/artist; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Highly talented in his field, Kid Cardona served as

1-10     the vice-president of United Cartoonist Syndicate from 1975 to 1985

1-11     and from 1980 to 1986 was syndicated by Transworld News Service and

1-12     Columbia Pictures Merchandising; and

1-13           WHEREAS, He created the Infamous Cartoon Posse in 1986,

1-14     started the newspaper The Cartoonist in 1993, and joined the

1-15     National Caricaturist Network in 1993; he is ranked fifth in

1-16     international competition by the National Caricaturist Network, and

1-17     he served as the official caricature artist for the United States

1-18     Drug Summit and the United States Olympic Festival; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Kid Cardona entertains by recreating the 1880s Wild

1-20     West with authentic costume and tall Texas tales based on historic

1-21     events; he represents Texas with enthusiasm and flare and is

1-22     invited to entertain for all types of occasions, such as open

1-23     houses, promotional events, and conventions; and

1-24           WHEREAS, He has shared his love of Texas history with

 2-1     innumerable schoolchildren and has served as a fundraiser for a

 2-2     wide array of charitable causes, such as Wolftrail Kids Kamp, the

 2-3     San Antonio Jewish Community Center, the Battered Women's Shelter,

 2-4     and the Visit the Kids program at Methodist Hospital; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, Kid Cardona served as host of the National

 2-6     Caricaturist Network's 1995 San Antonio Annual Convention and in

 2-7     1996 became the editor of "Exaggerated Features," a professional

 2-8     news and source guide for the organization; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

2-10     hereby commend Kid Cardona on his unique talent and his many

2-11     accomplishments and declare him the Caricature Artist of Texas;

2-12     and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him

2-14     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
