By: Madla S.C.R. No. 31 97S0526/1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Edwards County will greatly miss the dedicated 1-2 service and expertise of Warren B. Guthrie, who has recently 1-3 retired after having served as Sheriff of Edwards County for four 1-4 years; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An outstanding peace officer, Sheriff Guthrie served 1-6 his county honorably and conscientiously; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Prior to being sheriff, this distinguished gentleman 1-8 enjoyed a successful career of 27 years as a game warden for the 1-9 Parks and Wildlife Department; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Noted for his honesty and integrity, Mr. Guthrie 1-11 earned the respect and friendship of his colleagues; and 1-12 WHEREAS, During a particularly difficult time, Warren Guthrie 1-13 filled the sheriff's position in Edwards County; the border-area 1-14 county experienced an apparent rise in drug hauling over rural 1-15 roads, more frequent murders, and a significant rise in nonresident 1-16 property owners; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In spite of these difficulties, Sheriff Guthrie 1-18 enforced the laws fairly, and even those who were on opposing sides 1-19 agreed that he was scrupulously impartial in all of his dealings; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Warren Guthrie's record of cleared cases is one of 1-22 the highest in the state, giving positive proof of his efficiency 1-23 and effectiveness; and 1-24 WHEREAS, The well-known and popular lawman's record in the 2-1 line of duty has been most impressive; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A man of unquestioned ability and veracity, he set a 2-3 high standard of professionalism, inspiring others by his loyalty, 2-4 dependability, and exemplary conduct; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-6 hereby commend the term of service of Warren Guthrie and 2-7 congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement; and, be it 2-8 further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Warren B. Guthrie as an expression of the highest 2-11 regard of the Texas Legislature.
