No. 49 Wentworth, Zaffirini 97S0802/1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-2 recognizing the Fox Tech Buffaloes of San Antonio for winning the 1-3 1997 Class 4A basketball championship; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Playing before a record crowd at a 4A title game in 1-5 the Frank Erwin Center, the Buffaloes won their first state title 1-6 in a hard-fought battle against the Dallas Lincoln Tigers, 68 to 1-7 59; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Buffaloes win over Dallas Lincoln proved that 1-9 Fox Tech players, working together as a team, can accomplish a 1-10 highly desired goal; and 1-11 WHEREAS, With indomitable fighting spirit and drive, the Fox 1-12 Tech Buffaloes overcame some of the most formidable Class 4A teams 1-13 in the state in their march to victory; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The team members devoted much time and energy to 1-15 practicing the fundamental skills of the game and displayed 1-16 disciplined teamwork in their excellent showing against their 1-17 opponents; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to the 1-19 players' exceptional talent and to their consistent preparation; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Coach Gerardo Marquez and the dedicated and talented 1-22 team players deserve recognition for the team's efforts and 1-23 flawless performance; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, enthusiasm, and respect for 2-2 the highest ideals of American sportsmanship, the team members have 2-3 brought honor to their school and their community; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The Fox Tech Buffaloes proved themselves champions 2-5 in every sense of the word, and the Texas Legislature is proud to 2-6 honor them; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-8 hereby congratulate the coach and players of San Antonio's Fox Tech 2-9 for their well-earned laurels in winning the 1997 4A state 2-10 basketball championship and applaud the team for a job well done; 2-11 and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for this 2-13 excellent team as a token of admiration and esteem of the Texas 2-14 Legislature.
