No. 55 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 14, 1997; March 24, 1997, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on State Affairs; 1-4 April 7, 1997, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 13, 1-5 Nays 0; April 7, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, State law (Section 2165.256, Government Code) 1-8 specifies those persons eligible for burial in the State Cemetery 1-9 and authorizes the legislature to grant eligibility to other 1-10 persons through adoption of a concurrent resolution; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Sam L. Kelley, former Texas Consumer Credit 1-12 Commissioner, desires to be buried in the State Cemetery; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Kelley's distinguished and meritorious career of 1-14 service to the state began in June, 1964, when he became an 1-15 assistant attorney general; after serving as Chief of the 1-16 Insurance, Banking, and Securities Division in the Attorney 1-17 General's Office, Mr. Kelley was appointed Texas Consumer Credit 1-18 Commissioner by the Texas Finance Commission in May, 1970; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Even though Mr. Kelley resigned his position as 1-20 commissioner on December 31, 1985, he has continued to ably and 1-21 loyally serve the citizens of Texas as a member of the Texas Credit 1-22 Code Revision Task Force; his service has always been marked with 1-23 dedication and devotion; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-25 hereby authorize the burial of Sam L. Kelley in the State Cemetery, 1-26 provided proper application for assignment of burial space is made 1-27 to the General Services Commission as required by law. 1-28 * * * * *
