SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Wortham High School Bulldogs basketball team

 1-2     captured the Class 1A State Basketball Championship with a

 1-3     hard-fought 50-42 win over Nazareth High School, and this

 1-4     accomplishment is indeed deserving of special legislative

 1-5     recognition; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Bulldogs took full advantage of their first trip

 1-7     to the state tournament, putting together a winning streak that

 1-8     culminated in an impressive 27-2 record and possession of the

 1-9     coveted state crown; Bulldog faithful had reason to cheer as their

1-10     team slowly pulled away in the fourth quarter of the title game and

1-11     finally put the game out of Nazareth's reach; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Led by senior center and tournament MVP Lance

1-13     Chambers, Wortham knocked off two other talented teams during the

1-14     tournament; the squad received additional support from seniors

1-15     Leonard Davis and Terrell Spence, whose clutch free throw shooting

1-16     buoyed the team in the game's final minutes; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Head Coach Todd Jarrell has schooled his young

1-18     players in hardcourt fundamentals while at the same time instilling

1-19     in them the virtues of academic excellence and good sportsmanship;

1-20     his dynamic leadership helped to ensure that the team remained

1-21     competitive throughout the season while staying focused on its goal

1-22     of a state title; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a

 2-1     team has been a hallmark of the Bulldogs, whose team members

 2-2     include Leonard Davis, Pete Eggins, Terrell Spence, Rashad Evans,

 2-3     Tim Baxter, Jason Carr, Jonathan Robertson, Michael Betts, Rhett

 2-4     Butler, Ryan Carr, Robert Busby, Lance Chambers, James Eggins,

 2-5     Reuben Randle, and Willis Daniels; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, These talented young men, as well as their coaches

 2-7     and staff, are a tremendous source of pride for the students and

 2-8     faculty of Wortham High School, and it is a privilege to join their

 2-9     many supporters in the community in honoring them at this time;

2-10     now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

2-12     hereby congratulate Head Coach Todd Jarrell and the Wortham High

2-13     School Bulldogs on winning the Class 1A State Basketball

2-14     Championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued

2-15     success in the future; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-17     prepared for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high

2-18     regard by the Texas Senate and House of Representatives.
