SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to honor the

 1-2     volunteer parents and teachers who make up the Texas Congress of

 1-3     Parents and Teachers, better known as Texas PTA, for providing 88

 1-4     years of outstanding service to children and youth throughout the

 1-5     Lone Star State; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Texas PTA is proud to be affiliated with National

 1-7     PTA, which is celebrating 100 years of advocating for children; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Children are the first concern of Texas PTA as

 1-9     evident in the work of the volunteers who promote the health,

1-10     welfare, and safety of children in the home, school, and community,

1-11     secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and

1-12     youth, and develop between educators and the general public such

1-13     united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the

1-14     highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual

1-15     education; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Each year Texas PTA names an "Outstanding

1-17     Legislator" who also exemplifies the ideals of Texas PTA through

1-18     his or her legislative actions; and

1-19           WHEREAS, During the 21st annual Texas PTA Legislative

1-20     Conference, the organization named Senator Bill Ratliff Outstanding

1-21     Legislator; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Today, more than 725,000 Texas PTA members work in

1-23     cooperation with public educators across the state, and their

 2-1     enthusiastic efforts have played a key role in developing

 2-2     innovational and inspirational educational goals that will help

 2-3     prepare Texas youth for leadership roles well into the next

 2-4     millennium; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, On over 2,600 campuses, Texas PTA can achieve its

 2-6     goals because of the volunteers who provide selfless service, give

 2-7     generously of their time, and use their talents and energies for

 2-8     the betterment of the youth of our state; and

 2-9           WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, Texas PTA has worked

2-10     to improve educational opportunities for all Texas children, and

2-11     its exemplary programs continue to instill in them the values that

2-12     have made our state strong and great; now, therefore, be it

2-13           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

2-14     hereby commend the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers for its

2-15     faithful service on behalf of the children of our state, extend

2-16     best wishes to its members for the 88th anniversary celebration and

2-17     a productive legislative conference, and extend a sincere thank-you

2-18     for recognizing one of our colleagues for his work for children;

2-19     and, be it further

2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-21     prepared for Texas PTA as an expression of high regard from the

2-22     Legislature of the State of Texas.
