                            SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas recognizes the

1-2 Allens Creek Reservoir site in Austin County as an ideal location

1-3 for the development of a reservoir and that its purchase by the

1-4 state should be ranked as a high priority; and

1-5 WHEREAS, The Allens Creek Reservoir site consists of

1-6 approximately 9,424 acres of land, and the site's owner is willing

1-7 to sell the property; the land has been identified by the Texas

1-8 Water Plan as a potential reservoir site that would greatly benefit

1-9 the citizens of Texas; and

1-10 WHEREAS, If the site is not acquired soon, the property may

1-11 be sold in the near future, jeopardizing its viability as a

1-13 WHEREAS, The Trans-Texas Water Program has determined that

1-14 the proposed reservoir would consist of a dam on Allens Creek and

1-15 impoundment of 142,892 acre-feet of water, with an annual firm

1-16 yield of approximately 70,000 acre-feet of water per year; and

1-17 WHEREAS, The Allens Creek Reservoir would include the

1-18 diversion of 168,000 acre-feet of water per year from the Brazos

1-19 River for storage in the reservoir; the diversion rate would be

1-20 approximately 1,800 cubic feet of water per second at a diversion

1-21 point that would be specified in the permit; and

1-22 WHEREAS, The development of the Allens Creek Reservoir and

1-23 the impoundment and diversion of the water in the specified amounts

2-1 would be to the benefit of the public and a prudent usage of the

2-2 water; now, therefore, be it

2-4 hereby recommend that if funding for the state participation
