 1-8                        SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 1-9           WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas recognizes the

1-10     Allens Creek Reservoir site in Austin County as an ideal location

1-11     for the development of a reservoir; and

1-12           WHEREAS, The Allens Creek Reservoir site consists of

1-13     approximately 9,424 acres of land, and the site's owner is willing

1-14     to sell the property; the land has been identified by the Texas

1-15     Water Plan as a potential reservoir site that would greatly benefit

1-16     the citizens of Texas; and

1-17           WHEREAS, If the site is not acquired soon, the property may

1-18     be sold in the near future, jeopardizing its viability as a

1-19     reservoir site; and

1-20           WHEREAS, The Trans-Texas Water Program has determined that

1-21     the proposed reservoir would consist of a dam on Allens Creek and

1-22     impoundment of 142,892 acre-feet of water, with an annual firm

1-23     yield of approximately 70,000 acre-feet of water per year; and

1-24           WHEREAS, The Allens Creek Reservoir would include the

1-25     diversion of 168,000 acre-feet of water per year from the Brazos

1-26     River for storage in the reservoir; the diversion rate would be

1-27     approximately 1,800 cubic feet of water per second at a diversion

1-28     point that would be specified in the permit; and

1-29           WHEREAS, The development of the Allens Creek Reservoir and

1-30     the impoundment and diversion of the water in the specified amounts

1-31     would be to the benefit of the public and a prudent usage of the

1-32     water; now, therefore, be it

1-33           RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

1-34     hereby recommend that, if funding for the state participation

1-35     program or other programs allowing state ownership of facilities is

1-36     approved, Allens Creek Reservoir site be ranked as a high priority

1-37     by the Texas Water Development Board; and, be it further

1-38           RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the

1-39     Texas Water Development Board.
