No. 93 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed May 14, 1997; May 16, 1997, read first 1-3 time and referred to Committee on Administration; May 18, 1997, 1-4 reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 6, Nays 0; 1-5 May 18, 1997, sent to printer.) 1-6 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, The abundant natural resources of Texas are the 1-8 foundation of the state's remarkable prosperity, vitality, and 1-9 quality of life, and as such are worthy of the attention and 1-10 consideration of all Texans; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Lone Star State is known throughout the world 1-12 for the breathtaking beauty and variety of its flora, fauna, and 1-13 landscapes, and the identification of Texas with its natural 1-14 attributes has contributed much to the legendary character of the 1-15 state's reputation; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The stature of Texas as an international economic 1-17 powerhouse derives in large part from the rich variety of 1-18 indigenous resources that have fueled the state's economic 1-19 development, and Texas history has been shaped and defined by the 1-20 evolving relationship between the land and its inhabitants; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Wise stewardship of our precious natural resources 1-22 is essential if we are to secure the future well-being of our 1-23 state's residents, and it is incumbent on every Texan to recognize 1-24 the importance of our rich natural legacy and ensure its continued 1-25 existence for future generations; now, therefore, be it 1-26 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-27 hereby designate the first week of April, 1997, as Texas Natural 1-28 Resources Week and encourage its observance throughout the state. 1-29 * * * * *
