SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas proudly 1-2 recognizes the Canadian Wildcats High School girls track team for 1-3 winning the Class 2A girls track championship on May 10, 1997, at 1-4 Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The team's surprise victory marked the first 1-6 University Interscholastic League State Championship in any sport 1-7 by a Canadian team; and 1-8 WHEREAS, There are 210 2A high school girls track teams in 1-9 the state and 4,076 track participants; the Canadian girls track 1-10 team scored a total of 40 points to capture first place; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Individual honors went to team members Denise Lee 1-12 who came in first in the 1,600-meter run; Bessie Ann Reed who won 1-13 the 400-meter dash; and Amber Rupprecht who came in first in the 1-14 300-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter hurdles; and 1-15 WHEREAS, With the added talent of Kathy Lee, these three team 1-16 members placed fifth in the 1,600 meter relay; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Under the superb coaching and leadership of Coach 1-18 Don Drinnon, the Wildcats have attained the pinnacle of success 1-19 through hard work, dedication, and excellent teamwork; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Besides providing thrills and excitement for their 1-21 loyal fans, the Wildcats have focused attention on Canadian High 1-22 School, the City of Canadian, and Hemphill County; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The success of the Canadian Wildcats High School 2-1 girls track team is a tribute to the determination and skill of the 2-2 members and the inspiration and guidance of their coach; now, 2-3 therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-5 hereby commend the Canadian Wildcats High School girls track team 2-6 on its stunning victory and extend congratulations to the coach and 2-7 each of the team members; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for them 2-9 as a memento of their accomplishments and as an expression of the 2-10 esteem of the Texas Legislature. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I hereby certify that S.C.R.
