CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Judge Mike Schwille on May 14, 1997,
1-2 at the age of 61, has brought a great loss to the family and many
1-3 friends of this esteemed Dallas resident; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Judge Schwille was graduated from North Texas State
1-5 University and Baylor University School of Law; for the last 18
1-6 years, he addressed issues vital to the community as judge of
1-7 Dallas County Criminal Court Number 3, and his remarkable
1-8 dedication earned him the respect and admiration of the entire
1-9 community; and
1-10 WHEREAS, A former assistant district attorney, he served his
1-11 fellow citizens as chief prosecutor for the Dallas County Grand
1-12 Jury, presenting approximately 70,000 cases to that body for its
1-13 consideration during his tenure; and
1-14 WHEREAS, This esteemed jurist shared his extensive knowledge
1-15 as an assistant professor at Abilene Christian University and as an
1-16 instructor at El Centro Junior College and as a lecturer or speaker
1-17 for a number of organizations in Dallas and other areas; and
1-18 WHEREAS, A member of the Texas State Bar Association, the
1-19 Texas District and County Attorney's Association, and the Baylor
1-20 Law Alumni Association, he further contributed to the community
1-21 through his involvement in several groups, including the Rock Creek
1-22 Barbecue Club, the American Legion, the United States Navy League,
1-23 the High Noon Club, and the Deaf Action Center; and
1-24 WHEREAS, In addition to his noteworthy accomplishments in
2-1 these areas, Judge Schwille, who was a United States Navy veteran,
2-2 will be fondly remembered for his hospitality; he expressed his
2-3 appreciation to the members of the United States Marine Corps' Drum
2-4 and Bugle Corps for their inspiring performances by hosting an
2-5 annual Texas Barbecue in their honor at the State Fair of Texas,
2-6 and he was recognized for his gracious gesture by the Commandant of
2-7 the Marine Corps in 1993; and
2-8 WHEREAS, Mike Schwille left an indelible mark on the
2-9 community he was proud to call home, and though his special
2-10 presence will be deeply missed, his memory will long endure in the
2-11 hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be
2-12 it
2-13 RESOLVED, That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-14 hereby pay tribute to the life of Judge Mike Schwille and extend
2-15 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Carolyn
2-16 Schwille; to his son, Edward C. Schwille; to his first cousins,
2-17 Earl Bullock, Marsue Williams, Ed Martin Schwille, Mary Ellen
2-18 Newsome, Dorothy Green, and Dr. Paul Schwille; and to his many
2-19 other friends and relatives; and, be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-22 Senate and House of Representatives adjourn this day, they do so in
2-23 memory of Judge Mike Schwille.
