SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 1-1     proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the place at which

 1-2     the Supreme Court of Texas sits to transact business.

 1-3           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

 1-4           SECTION 1.  Section 3a, Article V, Texas Constitution, is

 1-5     amended to read as follows:

 1-6           Sec. 3a.  The Supreme Court may sit at any time during the

 1-7     year at the seat of government or, at the court's discretion, at

 1-8     any other location in this state for the transaction of business

 1-9     and each term thereof shall begin and end with each calendar year.

1-10           SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be

1-11     submitted to the voters at an election to be held on November 4,

1-12     1997.  The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against

1-13     the proposition:  "The constitutional amendment authorizing the

1-14     supreme court to sit to transact business at any location in this

1-15     state."
