No. 33 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1-1 proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the dedication of 1-2 the compensation to victims of crime fund and the compensation to 1-3 victims of crime auxiliary fund. 1-4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by 1-6 adding Section 31 to read as follows: 1-7 Sec. 31. (a) The compensation to victims of crime fund and 1-8 the compensation to victims of crime auxiliary fund created by 1-9 Chapter 56, Code of Criminal Procedure, are each a separate 1-10 dedicated account in the general revenue fund. 1-11 (b) Subject to legislative appropriation, money deposited to 1-12 the credit of the compensation to victims of crime fund or the 1-13 compensation to victims of crime auxiliary fund from any source may 1-14 be expended as provided by law only for: 1-15 (1) compensation and costs related to compensation of 1-16 victims of criminal conduct; and 1-17 (2) providing services to those victims. 1-18 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to the 1-19 Texas Constitution: 1-20 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies 1-21 to the constitutional amendment proposed by S.J.R. No. 33, 75th 1-22 Legislature, Regular Session, 1997, and expires January 1, 1998. 1-23 (b) The amendment to Article I of this constitution takes 2-1 effect January 1, 1998. 2-2 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 2-3 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 1997. 2-4 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 2-5 proposition: "The constitutional amendment dedicating the 2-6 compensation to victims of crime fund and the compensation to 2-7 victims of crime auxiliary fund."
