No. 33 By: Moncrief 1-7 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1-8 proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the dedication of 1-9 the compensation to victims of crime fund and the compensation to 1-10 victims of crime auxiliary fund. 1-11 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-12 SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by 1-13 adding Section 31 to read as follows: 1-14 Sec. 31. (a) The compensation to victims of crime fund and 1-15 the compensation to victims of crime auxiliary fund created by 1-16 Chapter 56, Code of Criminal Procedure, are each a separate 1-17 dedicated account in the general revenue fund. 1-18 (b) Subject to legislative appropriation, money deposited to 1-19 the credit of the compensation to victims of crime fund or the 1-20 compensation to victims of crime auxiliary fund from any source may 1-21 be expended only for the purposes of compensating victims of crime 1-22 or of adjudicated juvenile misconduct and for providing services to 1-23 those victims, as provided by law. 1-24 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to the 1-25 Texas Constitution: 1-26 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies 1-27 to the constitutional amendment proposed by S.J.R. No. 33, 75th 1-28 Legislature, Regular Session, 1997, and expires January 1, 1998. 1-29 (b) The amendment to Article I of this constitution takes 1-30 effect January 1, 1998. 1-31 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 1-32 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 1997. 1-33 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 1-34 proposition: "The constitutional amendment dedicating the 1-35 compensation to victims of crime fund and the compensation to 1-36 victims of crime auxiliary fund." 1-37 * * * * *
