 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride

 1-4     in recognizing the Iraan High School Braves for winning the

 1-5     1996 Class 2A University Interscholastic League football

 1-6     championship; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Capturing their first state title in a hard-fought

 1-8     battle against the Groveton Indians, Iraan completed a perfect

 1-9     season with a 16-0 record; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Their win over Groveton proved that the Braves,

1-11     working together as a team, can accomplish a highly desired goal;

1-12     and

1-13           WHEREAS, With indomitable fighting spirit and drive, the

1-14     Iraan Braves overcame some of the most formidable Class 2A teams

1-15     in the state in their march to victory; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The team devoted much time and energy to practicing

1-17     the fundamental skills of the game and displayed disciplined

1-18     teamwork in their excellent showing against their opponents; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to the

1-20     team's exceptional talent and to their consistent preparation;

1-21     and

1-22           WHEREAS, Coach Larry Hanna, assistant coaches Henry Anderson,

1-23     Randy Doege, Steve Harris, Gary Harvey, Jerry Palmore, Joe Rivas,

 2-1     and Ted Sellers, and the dedicated and talented team players

 2-2     Cody Emery, Brandon Ramsey, Ross Blackwelder, Robin Hanna,

 2-3     Billy Palmore, Tim James, Patrick Smith, Michael Castaneda,

 2-4     Clint Smithson, Reinaldo Mendoza, John Rodriguez, Juan Solis,

 2-5     Brian Mecham, Derek Wright, Wesley Word, Jose Ibarra, Ryan Rylander,

 2-6     Daniel Foley, Hunter Lewis, Peter Lara, Rudy Galindo, Erik Wright,

 2-7     Luis Gallegos, Nathan Price, Jeremiah Medina, Jon Aishman,

 2-8     Victor Lopez, Eddie Evans, Felipe Bernal, Javier Hernandez,

 2-9     Ricky Hill, and Ben Brooks deserve recognition for the team's

2-10     efforts and flawless performance; and

2-11           WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, enthusiasm, and respect for

2-12     the highest ideals of American sportsmanship, the team members

2-13     have brought honor to their school and their community; and

2-14           WHEREAS, The Iraan Braves proved themselves champions in every

2-15     sense of the word, and the Texas Senate is proud to honor them;

2-16     now, therefore, be it

2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-18     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the coach and players

2-19     of the Iraan High School football team for their well-earned

2-20     laurels in winning the 1996 Class 2A University Interscholastic

2-21     League football championship and applaud the team for a job well

2-22     done; and, be it further

2-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-24     this excellent team as a token of admiration and esteem of the

2-25     Texas Senate.
