1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Lena Coleman for her 21 years of outstanding 1-5 service on the board of the Corpus Christi branch of the National 1-6 Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); and 1-7 WHEREAS, For the last two years, Lena Coleman served as 1-8 president of the Corpus Christi H. Boyd Hall Chapter of the NAACP; 1-9 during her tenure, local membership grew more than 60 percent, and 1-10 she is credited with reviving the youth chapter, which now boasts 1-11 approximately 100 members, and with establishing a firm financial 1-12 foundation for the local chapter; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A woman of talent, integrity, and forthrightness, 1-14 Lena Coleman has served as an active leader in the local African 1-15 American community since she moved to Corpus Christi in 1976; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Well known for her perseverance and first-rate 1-17 organizational skills, Lena Coleman is a successful businesswoman 1-18 who manages more than 200 units of federally subsidized low-income 1-19 rental property; and 1-20 WHEREAS, She is a woman of strong principles who gives 1-21 generously of her time and energy for the betterment of the 1-22 community, and her expertise and sound judgment have contributed 1-23 greatly to the effectiveness of the local National Association 2-1 for the Advancement of Colored People board; and 2-2 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Lena Coleman 2-3 is respected by the citizens of Corpus Christi and the members 2-4 of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, 2-5 and her presence on the board will be greatly missed; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 75th Legislature, hereby commend Lena Coleman on her many 2-9 contributions to the board of the Corpus Christi branch of the 2-10 NAACP; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-12 for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-13 Truan 2-14 Armbrister Galloway Nixon 2-15 Barrientos Harris Patterson 2-16 Bivins Haywood Ratliff 2-17 Brown Lindsay Shapiro 2-18 Cain Lucio Shapleigh 2-19 Carona Luna Sibley 2-20 Duncan Madla Wentworth 2-21 Ellis Moncrief West 2-22 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 2-23 Gallegos Zaffirini 2-24 Bullock, President of the Senate 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 President of the Senate 2-27 I hereby certify that the above 2-28 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-29 on January 16, 1997. 2-30 ______________________________________ 2-31 Secretary of the Senate 2-32 ______________________________________ 2-33 Dean of the Senate
