 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing Dr. L. E. Ramey, who recently retired after more than

 1-5     50 years of loyal service as a South Texas physician in family

 1-6     practice; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, L. E. Ramey attended Texas A&I University in

 1-8     Kingsville on a football and basketball scholarship from 1934 to

 1-9     1937; he graduated from Baylor University College of Medicine in

1-10     1942 and married Frances Glover Davidson on November 14, 1942; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Dr. Ramey honed his medical skills while serving

1-12     as a medical officer in the United States Navy during World War II;

1-13     he practiced family medicine in Bishop, Texas, from 1947 to 1950

1-14     and then moved to Kingsville, where he continued his family

1-15     practice until his retirement on November 22, 1996; and

1-16           WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a family physician,

1-17     Dr. Ramey served as the team physician for the Javelinas at

1-18     Texas A&I University for over 40 years; he also served as

1-19     vice-president of the university's "T" Association and was

1-20     inducted into the Texas A&I Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Devoted to his patients and to his medical

1-22     practice, Dr. Ramey has dedicated his life to providing superior

1-23     health care for the residents of the Kingsville community; he is

 2-1     also a well-known civic leader who participated in the purchase

 2-2     of federal land from the United States Navy, which now serves as

 2-3     the site of the Kleberg County Golf Course and related park

 2-4     facilities; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, Dr. Ramey

 2-6     is beloved and respected by his colleagues in the medical field

 2-7     and by the innumerable patients he has served over the years; he

 2-8     recently was selected as a recipient of the first Spohn Physician

 2-9     Leadership Award from Spohn Health System; and

2-10           WHEREAS, In appreciation for Dr. Ramey's many years of

2-11     hard work, the Kingsville community planned and constructed

2-12     the L. E. Ramey Golf Course as a tribute to the dedication and

2-13     generous spirit of this talented physician; now, therefore, be it

2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-15     75th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. L. E. Ramey on his invaluable

2-16     contributions to his community and state and extend to him best

2-17     wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-19     him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
