 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing the members of the Leadership Farmers Branch program

 1-5     and the members of the Youth Leadership Farmers Branch program

 1-6     on the occasion of their visit to the Capitol on January 22, 1997;

 1-7     and

 1-8           WHEREAS, These programs are sponsored by the Farmers Branch

 1-9     Chamber of Commerce and serve as examples of the chamber's

1-10     commitment to unite the business community and its citizens,

1-11     foster leadership training, and expand opportunities for

1-12     Farmers Branch citizens; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The Leadership Farmers Branch program is designed to

1-14     provide opportunities for personal growth, professional contacts,

1-15     and intensive leadership training; the program encourages

1-16     participants to assume leadership roles in activities and

1-17     organizations that contribute to the betterment of the community;

1-18     participants meet for full one-day sessions scheduled from

1-19     September to May; and

1-20           WHEREAS, The Youth Leadership Farmers Branch program is a

1-21     semester-long program that helps to prepare high school students

1-22     for their future leadership roles and involves students in

1-23     community service projects; students meet with community leaders

 2-1     to discuss key social or economic issues that affect their schools,

 2-2     families, and communities; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Students are provided with the opportunity to work

 2-4     one-on-one with community leaders who serve as mentors, advisors,

 2-5     and guest speakers; they are taught about regional issues and

 2-6     attend special training programs to sharpen leadership skills;

 2-7     and

 2-8           WHEREAS, The participants in these Leadership Farmers Branch

 2-9     programs are exemplary young people and responsible citizens who

2-10     are broadening their perspective and knowledge by attending these

2-11     excellent sessions and training programs; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-13     75th Legislature, hereby commend the participants and sponsors

2-14     of the Leadership Farmers Branch program and Youth Leadership

2-15     Farmers Branch program and extend to them a warm welcome to the

2-16     Capitol; and, be it further

2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them

2-18     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
