1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride 1-4 in welcoming several distinguished visitors from Brazil who have 1-5 been invited to the United States through the International Visitor 1-6 Program of the United States Information Agency; and 1-7 WHEREAS, These honored visitors come to the Capitol of Texas 1-8 to observe the geographical and cultural diversity of our country 1-9 and to study the dynamics of state legislative bodies; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The goals of the International Visitor Program are 1-11 to arrange opportunities for the delegation to better appreciate 1-12 the ethnic, social, economic, geographic, and cultural diversities 1-13 of the United States and to observe how these variables affect 1-14 American federalism; and 1-15 WHEREAS, These eminent guests honoring us by their 1-16 visit are Anselmo De Oliveira Andrade, Humberto Teixeira Aveiro, 1-17 Marcia Fortuna Biato, Adolfo Costa Araujo Rocha Furtado, 1-18 Sandro Silva Goncalves, and Dirceu Ventura Teixeira; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Legislative advisor to the House of Representatives 1-20 since 1991, Anselmo De Oliveira Andrade has spent 21 years as a 1-21 fiscal auditor of the National Treasury; he earned a master's 1-22 degree in economics from the University of Brasilia in 1976, and 1-23 he is a member of the Regional Economic Council; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Legislative consultant to the Federal Senate since 2-2 1985, Humberto Teixeira Aveiro has been Coordinator of International 2-3 Issues, International Affair Secretariat, Ministry of Planning and 2-4 Budget from 1982 through 1985; he earned his economics degree from 2-5 the University of Brasilia; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Marcia Fortuna Biato has been a legislative 2-7 consultant to the Federal Senate since 1985 and was Coordinator 2-8 of International Financial Cooperation of the Ministry of Interior 2-9 from 1982 through 1985; she earned her master's degree in economics 2-10 from the University of Brasilia in 1982; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Sandro Silva Goncalves is a legislative advisor 2-12 and has worked in the House of Representatives since 1985; he 2-13 was educated at the University of Brasilia, where he specialized 2-14 in architecture and urban planning; he is a member of the Regional 2-15 Council of Engineering, Architecture and Agronomy, and the 2-16 Brazilian Architects Institute; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Dirceu Ventura Teixeira is a legislative consultant 2-18 who has worked in the Federal Senate since 1985; he has a degree 2-19 in economic science from the University of Brasilia and was formerly 2-20 a fiscal auditor for the Federal District Treasury and a legislative 2-21 technician for the Federal District Legislative Assembly; and 2-22 WHEREAS, Adolfo Costa Araujo Rocha Furtado is a legislative 2-23 advisor who has worked in the House of Representatives since 1985; 2-24 he has a master's degree in economic science from the University 2-25 of Brasilia; he formerly served with the Ministry of Labor as the 3-1 National Secretary of Labor and as the Head of the Minister's 3-2 Economic Advisory Staff; he is a member of the Brazilian Association 3-3 of Labor Studies and the Federal District Chapter of the Regional 3-4 Council of Economy; now, therefore, be it 3-5 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-6 75th Legislature, hereby express hospitality and a warm welcome 3-7 to the members of the Brazilian delegation; and, be it further 3-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-9 them as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate. 3-10 Truan 3-11 Armbrister Galloway Nixon 3-12 Barrientos Harris Patterson 3-13 Bivins Haywood Ratliff 3-14 Brown Lindsay Shapiro 3-15 Cain Lucio Shapleigh 3-16 Carona Luna Sibley 3-17 Duncan Madla Wentworth 3-18 Ellis Moncrief West 3-19 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 3-20 Gallegos Zaffirini 3-21 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-22 ______________________________________ 3-23 President of the Senate 3-24 I hereby certify that the above 3-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-26 on January 21, 1997. 3-27 ______________________________________ 3-28 Secretary of the Senate 3-29 ______________________________________ 3-30 Dean of the Senate
