 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, Sarah Butler was recently named the Big 12

 1-4     Freshman of the Year for her outstanding season as a member

 1-5     of The University of Texas women's volleyball team; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A native of Amarillo, the dynamic player earned a

 1-7     place on the Longhorn team as an outside hitter at the beginning

 1-8     of the season and has posted impressive numbers across the board;

 1-9     and

1-10           WHEREAS, She has used her six-foot, one-inch height to

1-11     advantage offensively by scoring 246 kills this season, ranking

1-12     second on the Longhorn team; defensively, she also ranks second

1-13     in digs on the team with 188 digs and fourth in blocks on the

1-14     team with 64 blocks; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Fiercely competitive, Sarah led the team for the

1-16     year with her season-high 27 solo blocks; averaging 3.06 kills

1-17     per game against Big 12 opponents, she ranks second on the team

1-18     with 3.08 kills per game for the season; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Early in the year, Sarah joined the Texas

1-20     "Double Trouble" list recording a double-digit number of kills

1-21     and digs in a single match and continued to perform superbly with

1-22     six double-doubles this season; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Truly deserving of the honor bestowed on her,

 2-1     Sarah Butler has become one of the most well-rounded collegiate

 2-2     players in the nation; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-4     75th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Sarah Butler

 2-5     on being chosen as the 1996 Big 12 Freshman of the Year and

 2-6     extend best wishes to her for continued success throughout her

 2-7     career; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

 2-9     as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
