 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to send

 1-4     greetings to the Heavenly Star Baptist Church of Houston as it

 1-5     celebrates the dedication of its new church; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Representing a beacon of light to the community, the

 1-7     church has grown steadily since its establishment; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, The celebration of the new church demonstrates the

 1-9     church's commitment to its holy mission and speaks of the heritage

1-10     and hope of the congregation; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Under the inspired leadership of its pastor,

1-12     Dr. Sylvester Duckens, Jr., this house of worship has experienced

1-13     exceptional growth and success; and

1-14           WHEREAS, This beloved institution has benefitted from the

1-15     talented leadership of the gifted Dr. Duckens; many new members

1-16     have been inspired to join the church family; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Inspirational and caring, this pastor has

1-18     unselfishly dedicated his time and energy to the members of

1-19     his church and his community; and

1-20           WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas Senate

1-21     recognize Heavenly Star Baptist Church, its pastor, and its

1-22     members on this auspicious occasion; now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-1     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Heavenly Star Baptist

 2-2     Church and its congregation for the dedication of a new church

 2-3     and extend best wishes for an even more successful future; and,

 2-4     be it further

 2-5           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

 2-6     the church as an expression of the high regard and esteem of

 2-7     the Texas Senate.
