 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing Don Legg, an outstanding citizen of our state, on the

 1-5     grand occasion of his 90th birthday on January 28, 1997; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A former teacher, coach, and reporter, Don Legg

 1-7     served as the Director of Personnel for the American Red Cross

 1-8     for the entire Pacific Ocean area during World War II; he helped

 1-9     relocate Red Cross workers after the war and remained with the

1-10     Red Cross for 17 years; and

1-11           WHEREAS, After a successful career with Prudential Insurance

1-12     Company in Dallas, Mr. Legg retired in 1969 and returned to

1-13     Kemp, Texas, where he is a highly respected leader in his community;

1-14     and

1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Legg's numerous civic activities have included

1-16     longtime service with the Kemp Chamber of Commerce and membership

1-17     on the Kemp City Council for four years; he has been a deputy

1-18     voter registrar for the last 12 years and a member of the Kemp

1-19     Athletic Boosters Club for the last 15 years; he has served on the

1-20     board for the Kaufman County Improvement Commission and has been

1-21     a member of the County Board of the Visiting Nurses Association

1-22     for six years; and

1-23           WHEREAS, A source of strength to many, Mr. Legg has dedicated

 2-1     his life to the betterment of his city, county, and state; he

 2-2     served three terms on the Kaufman County Senior Citizens Advisory

 2-3     Committee, was instrumental in raising $25,000 to send the Kemp

 2-4     band to Orlando, Florida, and is a supporter of students and a

 2-5     promoter of numerous school functions; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, Remarkably energetic at the age of 90, Mr. Legg is

 2-7     an active, working member of the press and reports the news for the

 2-8     City of Kemp for Mabank's The Monitor; he is also a photographer

 2-9     and proofreader and has received accolades for his exceptional

2-10     achievements by state officials and area students; and

2-11           WHEREAS, A distinguished and exemplary gentleman, Don Legg

2-12     is a mentor and friend to citizens throughout Kaufman County, and

2-13     his many contributions to his fellowman and to our state have been

2-14     invaluable; now, therefore, be it

2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-16     75th Legislature, hereby commend Don Legg on his exceptional

2-17     generosity and his many accomplishments and extend to him best

2-18     wishes for a joyous 90th birthday; and, be it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-20     him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
