 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers

 1-5     of Commerce on the occasion of its Legislative Action Day at the

 1-6     Capitol, January 28, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers

 1-8     of Commerce is hosting its second biennial Legislative Action Day

 1-9     and gala; the organization recognizes the importance of political

1-10     activism as an instrument for empowerment and hosts Legislative

1-11     Action Day to educate its constituents about legislative issues;

1-12     and

1-13           WHEREAS, The goal of the association is to provide an

1-14     opportunity for members of the Hispanic business community to

1-15     gather together and discuss issues and the impact of legislation on

1-16     Hispanic citizens; members and corporate partners attend a policy

1-17     discussion and are provided with materials by the Texas Association

1-18     of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce to guide them in the

1-19     legislative process; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Following the policy discussion, Legislative Action

1-21     Day attendees are given the opportunity to express their concerns

1-22     and opinions to the members of the Texas Legislature; they later

1-23     attend a reception and banquet to honor the members of the

 2-1     House of Representatives Mexican American Legislative Caucus and

 2-2     the Senate Hispanic Caucus for their service to the Hispanic

 2-3     business community; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-5     75th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to members of the

 2-6     Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce for

 2-7     sponsoring Legislative Action Day at the Capitol and extend to

 2-8     them a warm welcome; and, be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

2-10     Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce as an

2-11     expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
