 1-2                              SENATE RESOLUTION

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing the second annual Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event,

 1-5     which is being held in the Capitol Extension auditorium

 1-6     January 29-30, 1997; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, The Capitol Schoolhouse event gives students and

 1-8     teachers from across the state the opportunity to demonstrate

 1-9     how technology is used in their schools and to provide information

1-10     to legislators and state leaders on how these technologies improve

1-11     the learning process; and

1-12           WHEREAS, The second annual Capitol Schoolhouse event is

1-13     being sponsored by Diann Boehm of the Internet Schoolhouse,

1-14     Region XIII Educational Service Center, the Texas Education

1-15     Network, The University of Texas, Net Mastery, and Apple

1-16     Computer, Incorporated; students and teachers from 13 school

1-17     districts have been invited to participate in an on-line school

1-18     day to showcase current technology and the benefits of computers

1-19     as educational tools; and

1-20           WHEREAS, The Schoolhouse activities include technology

1-21     demonstrations and presentations by students, a tour of the

1-22     Capitol, observation of Texas Senate and House of Representatives

1-23     meetings and the Governor's Teleconference, interviews with

 2-1     state officials, and work on school projects and assignments;

 2-2     students will collaborate on a Texas history project that will

 2-3     be published electronically to the Internet; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Texas is one of the leading states in providing

 2-5     financial support for educational technology, and Texas schools

 2-6     spend more than a quarter of a billion dollars every year to

 2-7     plan for and implement technology in our public schools; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, The second annual Texas Capitol Schoolhouse provides

 2-9     an excellent opportunity for legislators and the public to observe

2-10     firsthand how students are utilizing and integrating technology

2-11     in learning, and how technology in the public schools today is

2-12     helping to prepare the children of Texas for the 21st century;

2-13     now, therefore, be it

2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-15     75th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of the second

2-16     annual Texas Capitol Schoolhouse on providing the state with

2-17     this invaluable educational event; and, be it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in

2-19     honor of the second annual Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event as

2-20     an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
