 1-3                                  In Memory

 1-4                                     of

 1-5                        Captain Christopher Williams

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-7     of Pasadena and the South Belt community in mourning the tragic and

 1-8     untimely loss of Captain Christopher Williams, who died recently

 1-9     at the age of 29; and

1-10           WHEREAS, A captain in the United States Army at the time

1-11     of his death, Chris Williams was a graduate of J. Frank Dobie

1-12     High School, where he was a star athlete and honor student; he

1-13     graduated from West Point Academy in 1988; and

1-14           WHEREAS, During high school, Chris received several honors

1-15     from faculty and school committees and was named Mr. J. Frank Dobie

1-16     of 1984; he was a Trailblazer and was voted Most Dependable and

1-17     parliamentarian of the student body; he was president of the

1-18     Spanish Club, was a guard on Dobie's varsity basketball team,

1-19     and was an all-state violin player; he was a member of the Junior

1-20     Engineering Technical Society and the National Honor Society; and

1-21           WHEREAS, He was a popular and widely admired student at

1-22     West Point and was a decorated Persian Gulf War veteran; he

1-23     was killed while directing artillery fire on a firing range at

 2-1     Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Captain Chris Williams was a first-rate officer

 2-3     and soldier who was given command of Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion

 2-4     17th Field Artillery, on July 7, 1994; he was highly respected and

 2-5     beloved by his fellow servicemen and was well known for his high

 2-6     moral principles and professionalism; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, He was noted for his exceptional leadership,

 2-8     patriotism, and courage, and his dedication to his work as a

 2-9     captain in the army will be remembered and appreciated for

2-10     years to come; and

2-11           WHEREAS, Captain Chris Williams was a devoted son and brother

2-12     who lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind memories

2-13     that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends;

2-14     now, therefore, be it

2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-16     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the

2-17     bereaved family of Captain Christopher Williams:  his parents,

2-18     John and Val Williams; and his siblings; and, be it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-20     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy

2-21     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this

2-22     day, it do so in memory of Captain Christopher Williams.
